THIS PAGE HAS A RUNDOWN OF WAHT THE WEBSITE CONTAINS SO ITS A BIT EASIER TO PLAN AND NAVIGATE FOR LESSONS
The site is designed so that students can explore some of the brilliant online apps and experiments with added explanations and scaffolding to enhance their learning.
The standalone online apps from the samplers, chrome music lab, BLOB OPERA, and Incredibox pages are brilliant for introducing specific techniques and concepts in Music and Music Technology and cover most of the Es & Os from these subjects.
Chrome Music Lab
There is loads to learn from in Music Lab just by playing about with the experiments. I created some videos to accompany some of them.
Melody Maker- a composing tutorial with tips for live looping performance
Song Maker- a composing tutorial for creating songs using a sequencer
Piano Roll- History of sequencing technology
Voice spinner- History of music playback formats
PODCASTING
This is a really useful activity to bring together music technology concepts such as microphone recording, editing, and importing with cross curricular projects of any subject. Podcasts allow students to display their knowledge of a subject in an alternative format which might suit many over traditional written forms of work and can be shared to the wider community online.. The resource used Bandlab for Education to walk through the main concepts and skills needed to create podcasts
BLOB OPERA
This fun little musical experiment has so much to offer in learning about music and also machine learning technology. The activities, videos and quizzes are intended to draw out the learning and challenge the pupils to use their own voices and musical improvisation through jamming with the blobs.
MaKey MaKey
MaKey Makey is an invention kit which is particularly well suited to inventing musical instruments with. It works by turning any conductive objects into touch sensitive sensors by creating an electrical circut when touched allowing you to create instruments that trigger electronic instruments or samples from a computer. Makey Makey projects can be created to cover many different concepts such as sampling, recording, electricity, programing, engineering, art, language and more. Get in touch with me at roryclark@hotmail.co.uk for Makey Makeys or support.
SAMPLING
Using samples to create music is one of the most creative and accessible techniques for anyone who is new to music and especially recording your own samples as it can instantly create an instrument unique to that person.
MK-1 lets you quickly sample sounds with the computer mic then playback using the computer key. A really simple intro to sampling
Sample Stich has really great sample sets from soul songs used in hip-hop tracks and gives great exposure to the fun of remixing old material.
SAMPULAROR- this app has a great set of samples that can be sequenced into a song. By listening and playing about with the featured beats, you can get a good feel for how to compose in this style.
